Our Ambassadors

John Burgman – 'Bird man' – the SFSuper Series Godfather

Every great event starts with a crazy idea – in this particular case a crazy relay run! John Burgman and his team at Westpac in 2015 devised a relay run from Melbourne to Sydney to raise funds and awareness for the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation. Over 10 days they covered 1000kms and raised over $160,000. The following year friends and family wanted to join them – and so the Surf Coast Century event was chosen – the rest, as they say, is history. 5 events, 5 different locations and nearly 500 participants later and look where he's taken us!

Thank you Birdman! (the name given to him by  Isla and Jude Donnell who have Sanfilippo).

Gary Mullins – TRT Running Head Coach

He is positive, inspiring and motivational and aligns perfectly with the SFSS brand. Having represented Australia at 2x 100km World Championships, Gary is the expert in all things running. More often then not he is top 10 placed in most domestic marathons and currently holds a 2hours 31mins marathon PB. Check out his other stats here on his website.  We can also boast Gary as our running Coach for the SFSuper Series. He writes the plans and then holds the training groups for our run teams.  The SFSuper Series is what it is today because of Gary Mullins.

John Jacoby – Race Director of Rapid Ascent

John, the creator of the Surf Coast Century Run has encouraged our team from the start. He is one of the most experienced and accomplished adventure racers in the world, having been involved in the sport since its inception (remember Eco Challenge?)

In 1987 (when a lot of you were still at primary school!) he was crowned World Marathon Kayak Champion for three consecutive years and went on to win the title four times. He has completed 30 major international adventure races in 16 countries and was the first Australian to win the coveted Coast to Coast title in New Zealand.  Since retiring from full on competitive racing, John has developed a reputation as a designer of ‘very challenging but interesting' courses covering adventure racing, mountain biking and trail running. What have you got in store for us in 2019 John?!
